The Training & Workforce-Development Division of 5LA

We Develop the People Responsible for Delivering the Promise.

The 5LA Academy creates practical hospitality, leadership, management, culture, and workforce-learning experiences that help people understand the standard, perform with confidence, and serve with excellence.

Why We Built It

Organizations Cannot Deliver Excellence Through Expectations Alone.

Businesses often tell employees to lead better, communicate clearly, provide exceptional service, take ownership, and protect the culture without giving them a shared language, practical tools, or consistent development.

The 5LA Academy was created to close that gap.

It translates real operational, hospitality, leadership, culture, and workforce experience into learning people can understand, practice, and apply in the work.

People cannot consistently carry a standard they have never been taught, shown, supported, and equipped to deliver.

We hire for hospitality, but we train for excellence.

Built for the People Behind the Experience

Different Roles Require Different Development.

  1. Frontline professionals

Employees responsible for welcoming, serving, communicating with, and supporting customers or guests.

  2. New hires

  3. Emerging leaders

Employees preparing to supervise, guide, coach, or influence others.

  4. Managers and supervisors

  5. Executives and business owners

Leaders responsible for setting direction, modeling standards, aligning teams, and creating the environment in which others work.

  6. Hospitality professionals

People working in restaurants, hotels, venues, events, tourism, guest services, and experience-driven organizations.

  7. Growing organizations

Businesses building consistent onboarding, leadership development, culture, service standards, and employee-learning systems.

  8. Workforce-development partners

Organizations preparing people for professional environments, hospitality roles, leadership, service, and employment readiness.

Our Development Foundation

Leadership. Ownership. Alignment. Vision. Excellence. Service.

The LOAVES framework is the values and development system guiding how The 5LA Academy prepares leaders, managers, employees, professionals, and experience builders.

  1. Leadership

Understand how choices, communication, preparation, and behavior influence the people and experience around you.

  2. Ownership

Take responsibility for your role, the standard, the work, and the outcome.

  3. Alignment

Connect individual performance with team expectations, organizational priorities, and the shared mission.

  4. Vision

Understand what is being built and how your contribution helps move it forward.

  5. Excellence

Perform with care, consistency, discipline, professionalism, and attention to detail.

  6. Service

Recognize the dignity, needs, and experience of the people you lead, support, and serve.

LOAVES may be taught as a complete learning experience or integrated into leadership, hospitality, culture, service, and workforce-development programs.

Where the Learning Begins

The Standards We Teach First.

A look at the Academy's learning philosophy through the material that anchors it. Full curriculum is shared with participating organizations rather than published here.

The Tablemaker Standards

Available now

Four codified behaviors that turn a transaction into an experience. Each is taught with a definition and a real operational example, so learners can recognize the standard in their own work.

  1. Presence

The foundation of all hospitality — being completely available, intellectually and emotionally, to the person in front of you.

In practicePausing the transaction and holding eye contact rather than continuing to type through the conversation.

  2. Anticipation

Meeting the needs a guest has not expressed, before they have to ask.

In practiceNoticing a guest returning from a run and having chilled water ready before they reach the desk.

  3. Emotional Awareness

Reading energy and expression, then adjusting pace and tone to match what the moment actually needs.

In practiceRecognizing that a guest is exhausted from travel and moving straight to the room key rather than making small talk.

  4. Ownership

Never handing a problem to another department. Whoever hears the concern owns the resolution.

In practiceA guest mentions a broken air conditioner to the bartender; the bartender calls engineering and follows up personally.

Week One: Foundation — LOAVES and the Guest Experience

In development

The opening week of the Academy learning pathway. These are the concepts it is being built around; the written sessions are still in development and will be published here once complete.

  1. Orientation and Culture

Introduces learners to the Academy, the role of culture, and the expectations shaping the learning experience.

  2. Understanding LOAVES

Explores Leadership, Ownership, Alignment, Vision, Excellence, and Service as the foundation for professional and organizational excellence.

  3. First Impressions

Examines how presence, preparation, communication, environment, and behavior shape the experience before service fully begins.

  4. Reflection: Building Your Own Table

Encourages learners to consider the kind of environment they are responsible for creating and the people they are making room to support.

How completion is recognized

When an organization runs Academy learning through VelaXity, it can issue completion records to its own team as assignments are finished. These recognize participation and learning within that organization.

  • Presence Certified
  • Anticipation Certified
  • Emotional Awareness Certified
  • Ownership Certified
  • Tablemaker Standards Certified
  • Guest Journey Certified
  • Service Recovery Certified
  • Roleplay Proficiency
  • Onboarding Complete
  • Training Completion

The 5LA Academy is a professional training division, not an accredited school, college, or certifying body. Completion records recognize participation and learning inside an organization; they are not accredited credentials, and no program guarantees employment or placement.

The People We Develop

A Tablemaker Does More Than Take a Seat.

A Tablemaker prepares the environment, establishes the standard, develops the people, and creates room for others to succeed.

The 5LA Academy develops Tablemakers across hospitality, leadership, management, service, culture, and professional development.

We develop Tablemakers—people who understand how to prepare the environment, carry the standard, and create room for others to succeed.

Professionals seated around a long table in facilitated discussion.

Tablemaker qualities

  • Prepared
  • Responsible
  • Welcoming
  • Observant
  • Accountable
  • Service-minded
  • Consistent
  • Courageous
  • Intentional
  • Committed to excellence

Tablemakers understand that leadership and hospitality are not performances. They are responsibilities expressed through preparation, care, standards, and service.

Our Training Philosophy

Learning Should Be Relevant, Practical, Interactive, Reinforced, and Connected to the Work.

Relevant
Learning should reflect the audience’s actual responsibilities, challenges, and operating environment.
Practical
Participants should understand what to do differently after the learning experience.
Interactive
Discussion, reflection, scenarios, application, and practice strengthen understanding.
Human-centered
Learning should respect participants’ dignity, experience, concerns, and pace.
Reinforced
Managers, communication, tools, and follow-up should continue supporting the standard.
Operationally connected
Training must align with the organization’s policies, systems, leadership behavior, and available resources.
